Mothers’ Union


Purpose

T he purpose of the Mothers’ Union is to be specially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.

The Aim of the Society is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life.

Objectives

• To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding.

• To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.

• To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service

• To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.

• To help those whose family life has met with adversity


Membership

This service is for new members and existing members to affirm and reaffirm their commitments to the Mothers’ Union.

The Mother Union Prayers for Special Times

Prayers at times of adversity; for God’s will on earth; for people in need; for those in prison; for those who live shattered lives; for renewal; for stewardship of creation; a prayer for the New Year.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF ST. ANDREW (BSA)

About the Brotherhood

T he Brotherhood works as a lay organisation and together with the clergy co-operates to advance the interest of the Church. A convention is held each year at which every Chapter in good standing is entitled to be represented. The convention appoints a Council which is charged with the general management of the organisation.

Mission

The mission of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the spread of the good news of Christ among men and especially young men and boys for their self-fulfillment.

General Rules of Membership

Every man desiring to become a member must pledge himself to obey the Rules so long as he shall be a member.


These rules are:

The Rule of Prayer
• The rule of Prayer is to pray unceasingly for the spread of the good news of Christ among men, especially young men and for their guidance, wisdom and understanding which will contribute to the effective work of the Brotherhood.

The Rule of Study
• This is to study regularly the Holy Scriptures and the teachings of the Church to attain a better understanding of how to follow Christ and bring others into His Kingdom for the self fulfillment of all.

The Rule of Service
• This is to make earnest and continuous efforts to lead other men nearer to Christ, through His Church, for the development and growth of their full potential.

WELFARE AND ADVISORY COUNCIL (WAC)

This organisation was established in February of 1987.

Founder Members

- The Very Revd. Father Dereck Goodrich, Dean of St George’s Cathedral (1984).

- Attorney at Law, Neville Graham

- Physiotherapist Sister Paula Alexander

- Nurse Elaine Burnham-Thorne

 

Purpose

• Promote any charitable activities for the benefit of parishioners of the St. George’s Cathedral Parish and of the Anglican Church in general (herein after called “the area of benefit”) by the advancement of education, the furtherance of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness.

In Furthermore to the purposes herein before defined, the Council may provide

• Centres for the supply of advice and guidance

• Obtain, collect and receive money and funds by way of contributions donations, legacies, grants and any other lawful methods, and accept and receive gifts of property of any description.

• Procure to be written and print, publish, issue and circulate gratuitously or otherwise any reports or periodicals, books pamphlets, leaflets or other documents.

• Arrange and provide for, or join in arranging and providing for the holding of exhibitions, meetings, lectures and classes.

• Promote, encourage and undertake organized research and experimental work.
